Released on 9th October, ’Elysium‘ is a bittersweet coming-of-age tale and an elegiac paean to the redemptive power of friendship, and follows the band’s Ivor Novello nominated single ‘Above The Clouds of Pompeii’. Both tracks are taken from Bear’s Den’s acclaimed debut album ‘Islands’ which is out now on Communion Records / Caroline International.
As well as this new live footage, ‘Elysium’ is also accompanied by an official video from filmmaker Marcus Haney, who, to tie in with the song’s theme, decided to follow his brother and his group of free wheeling friends as they celebrated their last few days of term at Seattle Pacific University. However, during Marcus’ four days of filming, a lone gunman attacked the University campus where Marcus’ brother and friends lived. Both the band and director’s immediate reaction was to call a halt to filming, but despite – or perhaps because of – the harrowing circumstances, each participant elected to continue filming as events unfolded. There are no actors involved in the video.
