As effortless as it sounds, Iris Gold’s synthesis of sunshine pop and block party hip hop can’t be pulled off by just anyone. The wide afro’d wordsmith is something special, with an unconventional back story and a killer arsenal of tunes.

As far as introductions go, ‘Goldmine’ is as arresting as they come, with warm analog-sounding drums, raspy trip-hop textures, sun-blushed vocals and an utterly infectious melody, ushered in by a carefree whistle. With live shows already underway, including supporting Blur in Hyde Park at the request of Damon Albarn, and instantly memorable pop songs that are like a breath of fresh, addictive air, 2015 is hers for the taking.
