Parklife Festival: Five Must See Acts

Manchester’s Parklife festival is a mere 28 days away, we look forward to the artists included on this year’s lineup and those you cannot afford to miss. The event which is set to take place in Heaton Park on June 6 & 7 has moved further away from its dance and house roots to involve a far more varied array of performers crossing the genres of folk, R & B and rock.

1. FKA Twigs

Arguably one of the most artistically creative performers to have emerged in recent years, Gloucestershire singer/songwriter Tahliah Debrett Barnett dominated critically and commercially with ‘LP1’ in 2014. Last month she proved that Twigs is not one for resting on her laurels with the release of the momentous ‘Glass & Patron’ the self directed video is available below.

2. Jamie xx

The xx’s very own musical innovator releases his very own debut album ‘In Colour’ on June 1 so Parklife is likely to be the first show following what is assured to be a critical and commercial success. Promising mind bending visuals and world class future garage sounds, this set is not to be missed.

3. Ghostpoet

Expert wordsmith Obaro Ejimiwe recently released the considered ‘Shedding Skin’ which is an exceptional collection of soulful vocal led sounds with guest appearances from Lucy Rose and Nadine Shah. A man who is known for captivating entire audiences is assured to perform a thoughtful, grounding set in the Big Top.

4. Caribou

Continuing to ride the successes of his 2014 release ‘Our Love’ Canadian producer and composer Dan Snaith now holds an iconic status on the electronic circuit. He is also an infrequent visitor to the British isles so Parklife is an invaluable opportunity to see his ethereal stage show.

5. Jessie Ware

The London songstress only performed a handful of dates in the UK during the promotion of her emotive second album ‘Tough Love’ so a stop off in Manchester will be in high demand. Jessie has surpassable vocal ability and is assured to bring those synonymous neo-soul/R & B sounds to Heaton Park.
