Best UK Festival 2014

There’s been a notable expansion of one-day festivals this year and some of them have been an absolute pile of dog shite. It’s all down to the current music market in the UK; logistically, it’s so easy to book a fuck-load of DJ’s, hire a tent with some below-par speaker systems and there you have it: a ‘festival’. What some promoters and indeed party goers have forgotten however, is that festivals are about an overall experience; sometimes it’s about more than shovelling as much MDMA into your ketamine laced mouths whilst prancing around to the latest Defected soulful deep house classic. Here, we round up our 5 favourite UK festivals* of 2014:

5. Secret Garden Party

1. Gottwood [Review]

Hands down our favourite festival of 2014. Great price, great location, great people and if you’ve seen the acts booked for 2015 –  an ever better lineup. Gottwood topped the bill this year because it’s a small, intimate affair (<8K people) with huge ambitions. Everything about the festival felt family orientated, hand-crafted with every little detail thought of. In our experience, the further you have to travel for a festival, the better it is and Gottwood is a true testament to that. We’re already looking forward to 2015.

* We haven’t included major festivals here as it’s almost impossible to compete with the likes of Bestival and Glastonbury who have huge production budgets.
