Channeling Donell Jones era male r&b and soul, Folded Like Fabric, a two-piece from Essex in the UK have smashed it with their latest offering. Warping synths, boundless pads, crunching claps and the most delicious vocal hook make this a strong contender for the most soulful, alternative track of the year. I tend to criticise everything, but I just can’t seem to fault this tune. If you’re looking for track definition of underground pop – a contradictory term in itself – this is it.
