Weezy has dropped some fire from his upcoming album Tha Carter V, entitled ‘Krazy’. I didn’t have much hope when I saw a new Lil Wayne track pop up on Soundcloud. The last few releases and features from Tunechi have fallen flat in my opinion, but this sounds like classic mixtape Weezy. The track has a sort of Yeezus feel to it courtesy of some raw production from Infamous.
Some people have accused his lyrics of being lazy and being the same old stuff rehashed, but ‘Krazy’ finds Lil Wayne sounding revitalised and rapping for his life. This may be because his self-proclaimed title of the ‘Best Rapper Alive’ had been questioned by a lot of people, noticeably Kendrick Lamar, who at the end of last year called out all the biggest rappers in the game on Big Sean’s ‘Control’, but omitted Weezy. Whether this hurt his pride and he felt the need to prove himself or he just realised he couldn’t keep trying to flog the same dead horse on another Tha Carter album remains to be seen, but I’m glad something as changed. We may be about to see another Rebirth from Tunechi and this could be the most significant yet.
