‘Lava Glaciers’ is the newest release from RiFF RAFF’s long-awaited début album NEON iCON, which is due June 24th. For me, RiFF RAFF or ‘Jody HighRoller’ has always been an artist that has confused me. I’ve never really known whether he was a character of a very talented actor or genuinely a man who has braids in his hair, wears neon, carries around a husky and releases rap records. If you’re yet to be introduced to RiFF’s Versace world, go check the first video I saw him in here, then come back. As you can see, he’s a bit different.
‘Lava Glaciers’ is produced by one of my the best producers around at the minute, Harry Fraud and features my favourite artist of 2014 so far, Childish Gambino. The combination of having all three in one place for me, is genius. Harry Fraud’s sampling and spacey sound makes the track sound like it could have fallen off the back of Because the Internet. RiFF RAFF’s verse is full of bizarre references which has become the norm from the Houston native, such as mentioning bi-curious mermaids, David Hasselhoff and Allen Iverson. Hopefully there will be a video to accompany the track soon, for now we just have the audio which has enough for you to mull over for the time being.
