Much like Atlanta and Chicago, Toronto has developed a clear voice within Hip Hop recently. The most notable flag bearer for the North is of course Drake and the rest of OVO but there are also similarly euphoric sounds coming from artists like Sean Leon and IXXI.
Today though, the focus is on Jimmy Johnson and his right hand man, producer Eric Dingus. Utilising Canada’s signature wintery pads and reverb-laden 808s, Eric sets the scene for Jimmy’s melodic delivery. Taking a slightly grittier, more street-driven delivery than what you might expect from other Canadian contemporaries, Jimmy looks set to carve out his own lane whilst remaining true to his hometown.
Make sure you also check out the In God We Trust Ep that he released earlier this year.
