Chicane aka Nicholas Bracegirdle is one of the most prolific and steadfast producers, composers and hit makers that emerged out of 90’s club culture and the trance music scene. His Ibiza dance anthems have successfully traversed into the commercial charts and spike instant recognition as those tracks you played to death on holiday and touched the stars to during a euphoric dance floor moment. People have anchored life long memories to Chicane and that tradition has been ongoing since his seminal debut ‘Offshore‘ in 1996. Since then Chicane has released 6 albums including the unforgettable ‘Saltwater‘, a re-work of CLANNAD’s ‘The Theme From Harry’s Game‘, ‘Don’t Give Up‘, his collaboration with rock/pop singer Bryan Adams, and ‘Poppiholla‘, his superb remix of Sigur Rós’s ‘Hoppipolla‘.
Chicane has also co-written and produced for Cher, Natasha Beddingfield, Paul Young, William Orbit, Ferry Corsten, Owl City, Kate Walsh, and Armin Van Buuren. He has recorded under several aliases including that of the popular progressive house duo Disco Citizens. His releases have featured on over 200 compilations around the world. He’s headlined Creamfields festival, the dance tent at Glastonbury, and appeared on The Jonathan Ross Show, Paul O Grady, Top of The Pops and Channel 5 News.
He recently launched the ‘Sunset Sessions’ radio show in November 2013. A monthly pod-cast series on iTunes, which is inspired by ethereal afternoons on the exquisite beaches of Ibiza. It remains at number 1 in the DJ mix download charts and is guaranteed to take you away to that special place. In addition to this he has just released a new EP ‘No More I Sleep‘ which made it’s public debut at Ministry of Sound during the bank holiday weekend on the 23rd May. The official release date is on the 26th May so grab it whilst it’s hot people!
The harmonious track starts off with a poignant collection of chords that segues into an angelic, melancholy, male vocal that builds into a crescendo of emotion which will send shivers down your spine. It is guaranteed to cause arms in the air reflex reactions, and will be inducing the synchronised movement of souls in clubs, fields and beaches around the world this Summer no doubt. The EP contains 4 tracks, all with their own unique Chicane signature. The Westfunk remix goes the hardest and is the weapon of choice for the festival DJs out there. It goes ever so slightly harder than the rest, with the synths emphasised and a greater combination of melodies and drums on the builds. If you’re looking for something to cultivate the crowd more gradually then the Original Chicane & Sons Club Mix is the remix for you. A nice slow burner, with bags full of flavour, extended in length to really get the crowd wanting more. I envisage this hitting the beaches of Ibiza like the rolling waves on the shore. The DC Rockin Club Mix and DC Rockin Edit fit snugly in-between the other 2 remixes. They are both quite similar but the latter is shorter in length if you’re looking for a faster transition to really get the crowd into a frenzy.
Chicane has built up his reputation over 18 years and this EP is a real demonstration of the skill the man has developed over 31 years. It is going to be another one of his timeless pieces of art that will last the ages. Enjoy!
