Brand new artist 4AM is set to release his debut EP ‘Wanted’ via Pilot Records UK on the 25th May. Hailing from Bristol, the virtually unknown producer will undoubtedly attract a lot of attention and make a name for himself through this belter of an EP.
Leading track ‘Wanted’ features Georgina Upton, who’s sweet and sexy vocals instantly hook you and help give the track its more commercial appeal. 4AM fuses a mixture of both house and garage elements with a 90’s sounding bassline and a variety of electronic synths & samples, creating a fun and extremely infectious record. With the right backing, I can see this one getting big. Not ashamed to admit that I love it!
‘IF’ is as slower, bass-heavy track which cleverly hops between garage and dub beats . Deep basslines, glitchy electronics, euphoric vocals and ambient drones create a dark and melancholy vibe designed for the more underground listener. Personally this is my favourite from the EP as pushes the boundaries in terms of genre combinations.
‘High & Low’ is the 3rd track from the EP which is a straight up deep-house jam. Sparkling keys are swapped for a filthy sounding bass while a contagious vocal sample repeats ‘Yo, hit ’em with the high and the low’. Nothing ground-breaking but definitely a great number to add to your playlist!
The 4th and final track from the EP is a Drum & Bass remix of ‘Wanted’ by Chords. A decent remix which adds a nice variety to the EP, but for me lacks in bass, variation and imagination. A highly anticipated drop is met by a tacky sounding bass which continues for what seems like forever without any new instrumentation or change. I think Chords has great potential but needs to start getting more creative and with his production.
4AM is a fantastic producer who is obviously capable of creating and fusing a variety of different genres. He manages to create flawless music that appeals to a diverse audience which is not an easy task! Overall, I think this debut EP is brilliant and hope it gains the recognition it deserves.
