Spotify have announced that the company will offer its service on mobiles for free. Before today you had to pay to use the service on your mobile with it being free on your desktop. Now they are making that free subscription synonymous across all platforms. Sounds too good to be true? It is.
The catch is that you can pick the artist that you want to play, just not the song. Spotify will play a random song from that artists back catalogue, the twist is that if you like a song that gets played, you can put it in a playlist and then listen back to it whenever you like in future. Quite a shrewd move by the company nevertheless, a move that will surely bring them more business.
As it is nearing the end of the year, Spotify have released little pieces of data about their year. One interesting fact is that 20 percent of its songs have never ever been touch which amounts to about 4 million songs! In an effort to bring that number down they have added a ”discover a random #undiscovered track”. This will not only help to get every song played but also bring revenue, albeit an insignificant one, to the smaller artists out there.
